My parents never put much value on education, mum was completely illiterate but was pretty good with basic maths as she was the oldest child and sold selling bread her mother (my grandmother) made after her dad past away at a young age. Mum was also good on home economics which is not a uni subject LOL but mum was able to bring up 5 children and have a no mortgage family home in just over 5 years after arriving in Australia.

So from my mums perspective we only went to school because the law required it and she had no problem us getting a job and leaving school ASAP. Mums view was all you needed is to have a job, pay check each week, save money, buy a house and get married. So all of us kids did more or less that, we all dropped out of high school, all of my siblings got married before turning 20 except me and all but one went on to buy a home

No doubt you can be successfully, financially secure without a university education or trade for that matter. I achieved that before pursuing higher education using the basic principles my mother had instilled in us and I could have carried on without pursuing higher education. However I felt I was capable of much more, I was inquisitive felt there was so much more to learn.

Came a point were I find myself in a library picked up a book "Introduction to psychology" and was engrossed, from that point on I just wanted to learn more and more. As mentioned previously I considered doing a psychology degree but decided against it.

Life events lead me to being self employed and looking to build a business, I had a business idea that at the time was very ambitious and would require rasing capital. It was then that I felt the need to get some business education, I enjoyed that took on more and more then when completing a diploma of management found out that made me eligible for university with credits. So it was like, why not

Not sure about you but didn't get taught and leftie/commie ideology at Uni, far from commerce is a capitalist ideology. Any way I didn't see Uni as being taught, it was more about learning but not sure those that have not done Uni get the distinction.
