Sometimes kids drive one mad with their fussiness. Both my daughters would try anything, but my son's tastes are, "early truck driver". My cooking skills range from. Sauerbraten mit Schwarzwald Kirschtorte for dessert, to bush tucker, and PNG village fare. My specialty is seafood. One night I served something special.
Son scowling. "Whoort's that?!!!"
I explained
Son. "I don't like that."
Me. "How would you know? You've never friggen' tried it."
Meanwhile, my daughters were getting seconds.
One night I fried Sago and vegetable with Chili, in the beautiful polyunsaturated oil from Witchetty grubs. With candied Cumquats in Brandy for dessert. The Witchetty grubs brown nicely when fried, and are delicious. My daughters ate theirs, after some initial hesitancy. My son decamped. We found him a day later, at a friend's place some 10Ks away. (they served English Stodge) Where he had probably judged he was safe from UFOs. (Unrecognizable Food Objects)
