    He has always had a bad astigmatism which is an eye ball bent out of shape which causes poor long distance sight.
    The out of shape eye ball stretches the retina and eye jelly is able to get in behind the retina. Full detachment equals blindness.
    Only happens to 1 in 10,000 people. How lucky can you get?
