Just providing a different viewpoint regarding incentives to participate in trials.
Some years ago I had cancer and was asked to participate in a trial. They were researching whether chemo first (to reduce a mass) then surgery, would be better than surgery first then chemo (to clear up remaining cancer cells). The latter I understand had been the standard order of treatment until then.
I participated solely because it was suggested by my oncologist, who was highly experienced and a well known researcher, and I trusted them. They told me I should be fine either way (it was early stage, I was fit and healthy), but doing the trial would be helpful to research/future patients etc
I could definitely have used some $ at the time for sure, but it wouldn't necessarily have incentivised me.
To me, the oncologist communication and recommendation is key.
