I have to agree with Atma. BHP wouldn't take over UMC unless UMC can prove in excess of a billion tonnes as BHP have heaps themselves.

UMC might be a takeover target for the steel mills and maybe MIS/MMX or AGO. But MIS & MMX have to sort out their own takeover first.

UMC sounds like it has heaps of potential especially Yandi.
I dare say that it might even be better than AGO if UMC can prove 100Mt at railway alone.

I reckon if Sino does not get MIS and UMC proves up its resources then Sino might have a dig at it.

This is just my wild guess but I truely hope UMC does not get taken over.
