Ruralco says it's trying to help Elders avoid foreign takeover By Tony Briscoe

Tasmanian-based agribusiness company Ruralco has comfirmed it has no intention of taking over rival Elders at this stage.
Chief executive of Ruralco, John Maher, says the company has taken a strategic stake in Elders to try and ward off any takeover bid by an overseas company
"Certainly it's an attractive target for multinationals or bigger companies that might want to get a footprint in Australia, and consequently by taking a 10.1 per cent stake, we've moved to at least have some influence in where Elders ends up and how it unfolds down the track, if that were to happen."
