CY7, all you need do is go back a few years to the BHP takeover of Western Mining. The general media comment at the time was how generous BHP were being with their offer, paying top dollars at the peak of the commodities cycle.

I pointed out at the time that it was a terrible offer for Western Mining.

Even with the substantial rise in BHP shares since the takeover, Western Mining shareholders would have lost out very badly being diluted into BHP considering Western Mining's exposure to nickel and uranium.
