A common reason for this is to increase visibility to institutions/investors that may not look at "penny stocks". This also reduces the Shares on Issue which may help with price movements (in either direction). Could be a good thing if it attracts the right type of instos.
On the flip side, it also provides a longer ride down if the price goes south, and also provides more opportunities for the company to raise capital, diluting existing holders.
All imo and happy to be corrected.
