In relation to Nike buying Billabong I think thats a little off the mark. Nike is actually in the process of distancing its self from Hurley and Nike 6.0 and positioning Nike as as surfing manufacturer in its own right. The company used the purchase of Hurley to break into the surfing market and get Nike recognised as a genuine player in the surf industry. Now that the company is in the process of becoming part of the surfing mainstream it has little need for Hurley which in reality is a blip on the companies radar as far as overall income. Although Hurley is yet to sign on to Surfstitch Bob Hurley has strong ties with Billabong and the recent announcement of the combined Hurley/Billabong surfing competition in Australia next year may be an indication of what is transpiring behind the scenes. I'm not sure if BBG can afford to pursue another big acquisition right now but I wouldn't be surprised to see Nike offload Hurley in the next 12 to 18 months to another big player.
