I have read your post a few times today and have been thinking about it for the afternoon.
I see absolutely no fault at all with your logic and if I were in the position of the potential suitors then it would make economic and business sense to follow the approach you have outlined.
It makes the release of the sample results all the more important.. not from a project viability perspective but more from telling the world that the engines are on and the green light is ON.
It may end up being a scramble.. and the best thing is its with entities with deep pockets.
