yes agreed Paypal and Apple would not acquire a bnpl no need to they have a bigger network and bigger brand. in a way the acceptance of bnpl has done the heavy lifting... first in doesnt always mean the biggest. APT was very astute to sell at their peak.
imagine a Zip acquisition now, from say Stripe , acquired for 1-2 billion.... at a 300% premium to current levels but it would also buy Zip out of trouble they only have funds to get them to about sept 2023 before another cap raise
