No, but they can make your life miserable. For example, reducing your credit limit or making it extra hard to get car loan or mortgage by destroying your credit rating, or ask for higher interest rate on home loan based on your risk profile.
P.S. one of my friends took credit card too lightly, not only his defaulted credit was sold to collector, his credit score took quite a bit of hit.
