There is an alternative rail link being jointly considered by the governements of Mozambique and Malawi.
A new rail line, of 60-80 miles, would connect the Mozambique's Sena rail to the Malawi rail system at Blantyre-Limbe and then proceed to Nayuchi, on the Malawi's eastern border. From there the great northern railroad of Mozambique runs to the huge port of Nacala. The run, from the coal fields to Nacala, is about 800 miles.
