Generally speaking, the courts look at records from the early 18th century, (letters, church records,authoratative books, council deliberations, state legislation and court decisions) up through the period of the Swedish Land Code of 1734, the first Reindeer Grazing Law of 1886, the Reindeer Herding Act of 1928, the Reindeer Husbandry Act of 1971 and its 1993 amendment, and in particular on a term titled "immemorial prescription".

Given that reindeer grazing covers about 50% of Sweden, there was always the issue of potential conflict between the nomads and the settled farmers. That's why the idea of winter grazing rights is an important one, and one which Talga has clearly respected.
