Absolutely. Climate change ideology is driving domestic investment in one direction only. Away from coal and towards solar/wind - which are great technologies, but certainly not an adequate substitute for reliable on demand power.
Solar and wind generation are highly variable, and seasonal. Battery storage can ameliorate sudden shortfalls, but only for short durations (minutes, not hours). This will increase reliance on gas generators, increasing demand significantly.
The only other alternative for fast response, on demand, grid scale, power generation is hydroelectric.
