Listen, most everyone is capable of the most viscous attack, it just needs the right trigger. Even in today's "civilised" society, most men realise you never get between a mother and her children. It's inbuilt and most if not all mothers will kill you to protect their children.

These so called peace loving Muslims can't control the radicals because that is not acceptable in Islam and vilification would follow. Best to not say anything.
