@alonso - thankyou for your kind post - I grew up with Viennese music, my Mum loved singing, so we'd do the two-part singing of all sorts of songs, including Strauss, Lehar, etc. but then I learnt 'proper;' music, became a bit of a snob, but now, everything goes, but I do select my music - have some favourites for separate occasions - and have gone back to playing my piano again . . . a fabulous 'exercise' for the soul - that's what music is.
For my Dad I used to have to play a Lehar song about a soldier being lost and lonely by the banks of the Wolga River and I had to do trilling notes on the piano to mimic the sound of the balalaika . . . . memories - probably not the right time to quote a Russian soldier, but this, too, will pass . . .
but the story is really about the young and lonely Zarewitsch who is longing for love whilst on watch by the banks of the Wolga - asking the Lord to send him an angel - surely he won't miss one - what else . . . .
    Enjoy

    Tau
    ❤️
