Tanami Gold committed to Coyote project
    Saturday, 30 December 2006. 09:17 (AEDT)

The mining company Tanami Gold says it will not be closing its Coyote project on the Northern Territory and Western Australian border, despite operational problems at the site.

Gold recovery has been below the company's expectations since the opening of the mine earlier this year.

The company says it has had to cut back gold production since sacking the BeMex Corporation as the mine's manager prior to Christmas.

Tanami Gold operations manager Frank Sibbel says the company has employed engineers to help redesign the mine's treatment plant.

"The plant up there with the vat operation really hasn't been suitable for what we were trying to do and it's quite a deal of money and time to convert that plant to the sort of satisfactory operation that we need," he said.

"That's where we're caught, more so in time than in whether it will not go forward."

Mr Sibbel says Tanami Gold has now taken on full responsibility for its operations.

"Basically at the moment we're reviewing all aspects of the operation in light of our experiences to date and we're putting a plan together to work out how we can best go forward," he said.

The review is expected to be finalised by February.

    End.

Happy New Year To All - Pie :-)
