I agree private schools should not get more money than state schools for their students.

Having said that there needs to be a radical overhaul of the way teachers employment is treated in public schools. My daughter had an awful teacher for her first year of school which severly affected her experience and learning - we had to counteract this by sending her to private tutoring every week for the duration of the year (fortunately we could afford to do this at a personal cost). Two of her classmates have had to repeat year one. She was however classified as a permanent teacher and therefore cannot be sacked for poor performance. Before anyone claims that it is now possible to sack these teachers the reality is that it is not (as advised by school principal off the record).

So in spite of what you classify as 'aspiration' as the reason for sending kids to private schools this is not necessarily the case - we are currently contemplating doing it to ensure our kids are taught by teachers who don't have a guaranteed job but have to live in the real world and have their employment based on performance rather than an outdated system and union membership.
