The message on this call was a little more refined than the Harvard talk. PBT2 was not grouped with Sola and Bapi this time but instead with the gamma and beta secretase molecules. Not so much talk about his trials as last time which is understandable for Harvard since CUREALZ funded the research. I felt that Tanzi made it more clear that Zn and Cu were needed to make the amyloid and he was very upbeat about PBT2 and specifically used the word "statin" in the same sentence as PBT2.

He spoke about revising the model to include glial cells right now it only has astrocytes. He also said that importantly the model does not include inflammation which is important for neuronal damage. But it is a start to be used as proof that amyloid causes tangles. It also (he didn't talk about this) does not include the BBB which is where PBT2 excels.

One of the questions asked at the end was has Tanzi had discussions yet with the FDA about his petri dish about allowing it to be used for drug proof of concept. He said no and felt that this is an area where activism is needed. We have to get drugs to market faster and this is a good way to do it.
