"Toyota airbag recall impacts 2000 Australian motorists"(source: The NewDaily" 2nd Nov 2018)
While airbag recalls by Toyota Australia has just recently happened, Toyota was required to recall Corollas in Ireland* 3 years ago for a similar
fault which leads one to ask why the Federal Office of Road Safety (FORS) has been asleep at the wheel fort least 3 years.
It seems silly for the Australlian taxpayer to be lumbered with hundreds of millions of dollars to run FORS when :
-we don't manufacture cars here now
-The ACCC had to step in last July and order the airbag recalls which should have been the responsibility of FORS.
IMO, we should simply recognise Japanese, US & EU vehicle safety & security standards, disband FORS and hand back the responsibility of
vehicle safety compliance and recalls to the States.
* I own a Corolla there
