Yeah, I'm with you that no one wants to see this go down, but, it's an endgame for the global political class whereby the Iranian theocrats are removed from power. Trump is a peacemaker and would make the deposition of the theocrats harder, or he'd go all in and make it worse... that's the wildcard, so, my guess is that we'll see action soon, before a change in the USA establishments what involves draining the Washington swamp... because once that swamp gets drained, the middle east is on its own for a few decades.
