I'm not going to surmise about what the government may or may not do, as they're a bunch of clueless, economically illiterate clowns, but I will point out that the last government to implement a mining tax was the Rudd/Swan duo, and we know how that ended, largely due to the mining sector who mobilised strongly against them. Chalmers was apparently scarred by this experience (he was working for Swan at the time) so hopefully they remember this. We are already seeing strong pushback in Qld regarding the royalties - a $40million advertising campaign that in my reckoning already has AP and her Treasurer rattled. They've largely created the mess, now they can sort it out.
