There was a fire or explosion in France to main electrical supply lines that travel under the English channel to UK around November last year from memory. This really kick started the gas and power squeeze in particularly the UK. Reports that it would take 2-3years to repair.
I think this was the real start of the domino effect combined with the surge in consumption post covid.
