Russian coal miners solve problems with export logistics via Northwest, railway discounts no longer needed - RZD (interfax.com)
This may have some impact along with major ramp up of coal mining in India and China.
After a mild northern winter, we are going into a seasonally lower demand environment accompanied with higher stockpiles. Spot contracts sold today will actually be used in spring since it takes 6-8 weeks for delivery from Newcastle port to Japan, India or South Korea. Winter buying is over.
Spot prices for the following month characteristically rally to meet up with prior month prices. In the next week I would expect Feb prices to be above US$300 per ton.
The last time thermal was below US$300 per ton was at the onset of the Ukraine conflict, which only seems to be intensifying with every passing day.
