There was an old graph that was posted here about a 1.5 years ago (can't find it since it was posted by someone else) that mentioned that Chinese coal production should peak at about 4.1B tonnes/yr by 2024 and they're already exceeding this. Im not surprised they're scraping the barrel with some of the stuff they're digging up. They're even targeting lignite which is comparative junk (<4175kcal) and helps to account for the worsening average calorific output of their mines.
Also, the open pit accident that happened in Inner Mongolia attests to their poor mining processes and rush to grab everything they can.
