"Everyone agrees it’s a stock picker’s market (due to current, risky economic conditions; & a possiblerecession. My words).

And Bank of America’s equity and quant guru, Savita Subramanian, has a simple idea on how to navigate it.

In an era where higher hurdle rates and protectionism are changing which ideas get funded in public market, Subramanian suggests turning away from tech and growth, and focusing on the stocks that

have been starved of capital for a decade or more, either because they were shunned for GFC-related problems (financial services firms, home builders and manufacturers) or because of environmental concerns (commodity producers, including fossil-fuel giants)...

“Cash is scarce and 5 per cent more valuable: cash users (long duration growth) should cede leadership to cash sources (dividend growth, cash flow yield),” she argues..

Still, there’s clear logic to Subramanian’s argument that investors will do well backing sectors where capital has been hard to come by, such as fossil-fuel producers.

The lack of investment in the sector means new oil and gas production is likely to be limited compared to historical levels, the disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will reverberate for years, and demand is not falling away as quickly as it needs for the world to limit warming to 1.5 degrees".

In an era of high interest rates, "risk-on" conditions etc., cash is king; as are very profitable "Value" companies (inc., obviously, fossil fuel producers), with strong fundamentals, are, IMO, a "safe haven" in very uncertain economic times.
