SGX HCC prices are at all-time highs (but for 2022 levels).
Despite thermal weakness, this is the only thing (IMO) holding up coal stocks.
Now that focus has largely shifted to the middle east, how long can we expect HCC prices to remain this high?
When will Russian sanctions lose focus, and we see HCC shipments flow once again?
Oil is the trump card, and it is very much integral on the minds of those in power. Queue Israel/Palestine/Iran/Saudi
In 2015 SGX futures were ~US$80 per ton!
Will HCC prices revert in the same manner as thermal?
Now that WHC has repositioned its coal mix, will its SP be vulnerable to correction of peak HCC prices?
How long will the consumer tolerate these prices before caving to input costs?
Will we see a falling HCC price nearing acquisition settlement?
As we saw a fall in thermal not long after announcement of aggressive on market buyback?
As buybacks show, managements return to shareholder policy has been ineffective.
Or at least, carried out at the wrong price.
Are we naive enough to buy in on the top of the downward slope?
