Agree that would be foolish. I don't believe that's been proposed, what Israel did was float the idea of displacing the Gazan population to the Sinai peninsula (in Egypt) not some handover of the current Gaza strip territory, they would presumably incorporate that into Israel after destroying Hamas.
They have offered the Gaza strip to Egypt in the past (and the West Bank to Jordan). Guess what, no takers.
