My long-made observation of target price dynamics has resulted in an empirically-driven conclusion that there target prices are a function of share prices, and not the other way round.
Not just that, but I now have an empirically-derived, and highly reliable, 3-step formula that defines the relationship between the two variables.
It goes like this:
Step 1. Take at Share Price at any given point in time
Step 2. Multiply by 1.20 to 1.25
Step 3. Result is Target Price
For example: if WHC's share price went to $3.00 next week, Target Prices would magically become about 20%-25% higher than $3.00. Conversely, if WHC's share price suddenly fell to $1.00, Target Prices would be about 20%-25% higher than $1.00.
It's one of those quaintly enduring axioms of the stockbroking fraternity.
