This is from a study done each year by Federal Government-owned Australian Rail Track Corporation on whose leased rail lines Hunter Valley, NSW coal trains operate.
Note that tonnages vary according to how many wagons are in what the railways call a 'rake'.
ARTC compiles the tonnages conveyed based on 97 tonnes of coal per hopper wagon but IIRC (not being a coal miner), the weight of coal varies according to its grade. hagetaka and others will correct me.:
Gunnedah line:
•Pacific National—3x 92/93/TT class (4400HP
AC) locos with 82 wagons-7,954 net tonnes,
1,296 metres.
•Aurizon—3x 6000 class (4400HP AC) locos with
82 wagons-7,954 net tonnes, 1,296 metres
