I had a decent amount of OSH/STO/WPL (which essentially has the same image problem as WHC) before selling out to buy WHC/NHC so Im quite used to this pattern of stocks taking a long time to react to positive spot prices and good cash generation. Brent Crude generally increased pretty sleadily throughout the time I held oil stocks but the stocks themselves would go weeks without budging even if the spot price had increased 5-10%. As for gold, I have no recent experience with it and last dabbled in it back in the GFC so I don't really have much of a view on it. It does seem to have periods where its does well (high inflation and market corrections) but I cant say I always find it performs well even when I expect it to. Maybe with inflation due to continue to kick up it will have its day again soon, but I can't be fully certain.
