I guess they were from "Bogdanka" coal mine.
I am also polish, I come from south of Poland (silesia district), where 95% of coal mines are located. I was born in family of 4 generations of coal miners and still 80% of men are still working in coal mines (and 50% of my friends). I graduated from Silesian University of technology (Coal Mining and Geology). I know what is happening there...
All coal Mines increased number of shifts from 3(or 4) to 5 and production is 7 days a week (normally 5 days and 2 days to just look after pumps etc.). They already had more methane explosions and other disasters (not all of them goes into public ) due to TOO FAST excavations. People above the ground also feel that (more earthquakes) - my mom is saying that she feels huge vibrations or sudden earthquakes once a week. A lot of houses are cracked.
Coal market is crazy. People in Silesia (minimum transport cost) now are paying 3500zl for tonne of coal (it used to be 750zl longterm as I remember). Many friends or family members are replacing coal heating systems to oil/heat pumps before winter. Putting more insulation where they can (even we have extremely good building standards). You can buy caol online on government websites but servers are blown away (the only way to buy 1 tonne is to try it for weeks around 3am when less people are fighting for it). Gray market of coal is huge. I feel a little panic already (and we are in the middle of 30 oC hot summer...)
War in Ukraine is designed to be longterm and it's not going away. US and Germany will push Ukraine to stop it and make some agreement with Russia but it doesn't looks like they will agree on that. I know many Ukrainian people and they are mentally were similar to Russians in terms of how they behave during something bad happening to them - it's all or nothing. No half measures.
