Not true. Sell side analysts from major IBs are not paid by the companies they cover. They generate revenue from the clients of the firm who transact based on their opinions and also recieve bonuses based on their success rate.
Small equity analyst firms think Evans and partners for example can get paid with shares in the company they cover in order to drive positive public attention. This is typically the case with small or microcap companies with low to no coverage.
To suggest Goldmans or citi is getting paid by WHC for ratings is an outright lie. What i can infer from your comments is you either write for a blog and have very little insight into the industry, or you're purposely trying to misdirect.
