PLASTIC bags will be banned at every Target store in Australia from Monday.
Checkouts at 286 target stores around the country will start charging customers $1 for reusable bags or 10 cents for compostable bags.
Target traditionally hands over 100 million plastic bags to customers each year.
Target managing director Launa Inman said the move was aimed at changing the mindset of shoppers.
``We believe the fee on compostable bags will encourage customers to stop and think whether they need a bag, only buy the bags they really need and drive the change to reusable bags,'' she said.
