The high volumes experienced Friday across many stocks is the transfer of stock for index rebalancing (not that APT Friday volume was extreme by any stretch). The index changes were announced 2 weeks ago or so, index funds work their magic from announcement ti Friday when the changes are enacted. No FOMO, no GS supporting price targets, no OS investors getting in, no insider precursor to an announcement or whatever random thing that people tell themselves to pump themselves up about the stock. Options are a third Thursday of the expiry month so not a Friday volume driver. Options are issued based on expiry's so are created continuously. When one set expires another is not created as a replacement to them, they end/settle. Traders with be actively managing the roll of their book.
