These tariffs could be a good thing in the longer term. They're a wake up call. Australian and NZ businesses need to put a limit on what percentage of their income comes from any one country. Once that limit is reached, put all your advertising into other markets. It is good for countries to be inter-dependent, so they're less likely to attack each other, but if one country is at the mercy of the other, the coercion and bullying starts. Look at what the US is doing to China, and the pressure NZ came under from the US when it didn't allow nuclear warships to dock here. Now China is showing Australia and the world it's power, and it's working. We Kiwis have to tread carefully and self-censor free speech to some extent lest we are next in the firing line. To stand up to such tactics, other countries can form alliances, boycott products, and have campaigns like "buy Aussie wine", but we really need to limit reliance on any one market in the first place.
