Hello all,
Great threads here guys, I refer to this thread and Bunya's.
Surely we can now start to COMPARE minor background readings from (? not even proven) a new and misunderstood process to the high levels of pollution that are emitted by power generation at present.
It seems only logical that if we can swap a cleaner technology to do the same job as a "dirty" technology we are significantly better off. We need to calmly compare the current pollution and impact on amenity (visual pollution) with UCG which is new.
The word calm is important but just as important is the comparison and this is what I am seeing here in this thread. Now how can we coordinate all the data into a presentation of fact? We almost need an open CXY action group to handle this task and share the load - I know I have very little time which is why I am not on this thread more often. It is not due to lack of interest.
People hate change because they fear the unknown. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't mentality. Well in the case of UCG we are comparing a delinquent violent lout with a mildly recalcitrant yet conservative youth. The difference between UCG and open pit coal power generation are that stark.
There is no new devil however the old devil is "normal" so it not questioned just like those fumes we inhale when we fill out vehicles aren't. Same with other contaminants from plastic packaging, chemical sprays on peanuts, food additives, the amount of rads we absorb daily from over 2000 nuclear blasts on our planet in the past 65 years (and nuclear power), exhaust fumes etc.
If the Queensland ALP really wanted "genuine" green votes and a cohesive community they should be getting on the coat tails of UCG and educating people about all our current challenges and how they will overcome them. Some intelligent debate please ALP - a way forward step by step to a cleaner world (CXY is part of the solution).
I invite the Libs to do the same - hey pollies most of us aren't children if you want us to take you seriously then step up and treat us with more respect. This would lead to a better Australia which we all want.
I am waffling sorry,
CW
