Yep, it was a good thread Alan.

When I lived in Nelson back in '84 to'85, I had a great time.

The people are friendly and very hospitable.

NZ is often called 'The Shaky Isles', and with good reason!

In Rotarua, houses are built over active thermal vents.

Each house or business has a vent pipe running up the side of the building, venting the steam from the volcanic heating of an underground aquifer.

Otherwise, houses would just explode as a large amount of steam needed to escape from beneath them, from the active vent.

Rotarua stinks badly, due to the volcanic fumes in the air.

It also has bubbling pools of mud, randomly placed, all over the place!

    An interesting place to visit!!
