The range of scenery is absolutely magnificent, but I prefer the South Island, especially the West Coast and the Northern parts around Nelson and Picton, the Marlborough Sounds etc.
I've never been to Queenstown, but it's full of Aussie tourists and backpackers from what I've heard.
Lake Taupo and Rotarua on the North Island are worth a look, and the Desert Road with it's Volcanoes is also spectacular.
The Beer's pretty good, and also the Seafood.
The exchange rate would definitely tip the scales in NZ's favour.
