We should get an update on some of this in the near future, but this is my research for now.

It is my assertion that the Tata Communications future Sponsored Data strategy relies heavily on the Syntonic Connected Services Platform to power its Sponsored Data Exchange.

Slide released by Craig Hepburn (Global Vice President, Digital Marketing & Brand at TATA Communications – UK based, former Microsoft/Nokia) on Twitter from their analyst conference in July.

    Sponsored Data Exchange (SDX).

The above slide shows that Tata is aiming to rollout their SDX across North America to target MNOs and advertisers directly, with a heavy reliance on Media brands (similar to what @coppertop01 mentioned in his research with AT&T).
They see mobile advertising revenue as a good source of future income. As they roll this out, Syntonic will benefit from licensing fees as well as a maintenance and support fee and a revenue share %.
Tata Communications has over 3600 large corporations as customers including 500+ Forbes 2000 companies. They also have over 1600 carriers including over 700 mobile operators.

This Sponsored Data Exchange was mentioned briefly by Syntonic in their first investor presentation but removed in subsequent versions.

This Tata Communications website shows that Tata’s Sponsored Data Exchange is powered by Syntonic Freeway Services.

Income in 2015 from Tata Communications
Tata Communications, a large telecom service provider, has entered into a distribution and licence agreement for Syntonic’s CSP, the Freeway SDK and content management portals that provide a Tata-branded sponsored data service to its customers. During the year ended 31 December 2015, Syntonic received revenues of US$435,000 from Tata Communications, which comprised Syntonic’s only revenues for the year ended 31 December 2015, consisting of licence fees paid to Syntonic under the Tata Distribution and Licence Agreement.

This above agreement has been expanded in 2016.

Tata executives & family own 4.15% of Syntonic.
Shailesh Gupta = VP at Tata Communications
Deepak Mittal = Head of Strategic Sales at Tata Consultancy Services

John Landau, former Tata Communications Snr VP of technology and Services Evolution has joined the board of Syntonic to advise on future growth strategies.

This Tata strategy will not only enable monetisation of partnerships for Tata Communications, it should lead to revenue for Syntonic as well through licensing, maintenance and revenue share agreements. Tata has a lot of MNO customers as well who may take a similar strategy and engage Syntonic to power their sponsored data services and partnerships.
