The indian gov currently saying that if they can get enough funding from developed nations they'll cut back coal usage accordingly, possibly shrinking their usage rather than expanding it.
Speaking of funding, more and more insto's are refusing to fund coal at all.
The insto's that will fund coal are putting restrictions on its quality such as ash content, effectively ruling out using India's own coal, but opening the door for Aus high quality low ash coal.
And when it comes to "clean coal", the Indians have said this week that when mentioning "clean coal" they are not referring to coal itself at all, they are actually referring to new high tech boilers such as supercritical and ultra-supercritical. It was also mentioned that these types of boilers perform much better with low ash coal.
Drying coal does not significantly lower its ash content.
My thoughts are that India will use some of its better quality domestic coal, which they will wash in the many new washeries they are commissioning, but the expense of doing so will rule out further processing as it will mean high quality imports are again competitive. Plenty in the media to support this view IMO.
If ANY of the many many drying tech's set up in the LV, Mantle's very low ash LV brown coal may find a market.
Cheers
