Not sure if you are familiar with the international Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) system, but here is a link to the neuromorphic computing page:

The CPC is another Frankenstein creation. It attempts to incorporate the old (18th century) US patent classification with the International Patent Classification (IPC) (used by all the world except the US).

I think the US classification was strongly influenced by the French Revolution as it seems to me to have been a laissez faire classification system, as it looks like a FIFO/FILO system, much like my sock drawer.

G06N3/02 is the classification for neural networks. The dots indicate dependency - two dots indicate that the sub-class depends on the nearest single dot sub-class above. So you would find Akida under these 3 classifications, 3063 being the most precise.

G06N 3/02 . using neural network models

G06N3/06 . . Physical realisation, i.e. hardware implementation of neural networks, neurons or parts of neurons

G06N3/063 . . . using electronic means

The usefulness of the classification system is that it should turn all patents having similar technical features.

ReRAM would be under:

G06N 3/0635 . . . . {using analogue means}

Patents are usually classified under more than one class, depending on the specific technical features of the invention.
