In a professional office, the receptionist is there to promote professionalism.
I am a heavily tatooed female, however, I keep them to myself, and never display them whilst at work.
I promote that my job is professional and I do not try to look sexy, nor do I try to promote my love of art. (mind you, it is hard for me not to look sexy LOL)
However, if I choose to go to my own personal functions and display my art, then I do. I respect my workplace, I acquired the job through my professionalism and then proved my ability to perform.
I still continue to wear what is requested on the job and promote my professionalism out of respect for the company as I DO represent them in pulbic, it says so on my shirt.
If my peers were all displaying tattoos and my bosses as well, then that would be a different matter.
If work does not approve, they must ask her if she would mind not to exposing them. I am not sure what would happen if they tried to fire her for it, that may become a discrimination issue.
