I still believe that any major changes to the tax system (such as GST and now carbon tax) should be put to the people before an election as Howard did with GST.
That would give a couple of years for labor to work this out properly instead of changing ideas every few weeks.
I have heard it said that this whole carbon tax thing being imposed one year before an election is nothing more than trying to score votes from the compensated ones. If so, that means it has extremely little to do with carbon reduction and everything to do with political vote scoring.
And if it is all about vote scoring, IMO, carbon reduction becomes nothing but an excuse to manipulate the people.
