had a similar problem but didnt cost anywhere near that. he charged about the same tho. if i were you if it is at a decent working height id go for it. if you can use a hammer to knock a hole in the wall and an oxy to solder the joint why not?
and three days? he's having a lend of you.
i had a leak in a bend under the shower which was leaking into the hallway. an hours digging in the concrete, a bit of new copper - id say mine would be a bit more difficult than just belting a hole in brickwork
