Should you borrow 10g to invest in the market, the interest will be claimable if, and ONLY if you invest in income producing equities.
Nothing is black n white tho and you can get away with something like a miner with a "reasonable expectation" of a dividend in the near future. My favourite, BSG, might fit this definition. A wildcat oiler won't.
So your 2g loss would be treated as a capital loss and could only be offset against a cap gain, not earnings.
