Hi,
I have a tax question regarding tax deductible interest.
I am aware that interest incurrred on a margin loan for shares is tax deductible, however the portfolio of shares I want to invest in are small to mid cap growth stocks, the majority of which are not available to margin lend via the financial institutions I have looked into.
To get around this barrier I was planning on getting a personal loan to purchase this portfolio of shares, however would the interest rate be tax deductible?
If so is there a specific product that a financial institution offers in this scenario, like an investment loan or can I just get a normal personal loan?
If not, is this because for interest to qualify to be deductible a particular share has to have a dividend scheme and therefore is seen as an income producing investment in the eyes of the ATO?
