There is nothing principled here. An opportunist like Bernie Sanders sees the road to victory can be paid for by taxing other people. His main support comes from those who hunger for free stuff. ie mainly gen v the pampered generation.

Enter Mal as he tries to win the election on "live within your means". He'd be lucky to get 10% of the youth vote with this policy. Especially as how he has a smug Bill charging along with $100 billion of other peoples money to sprinkle around. No need to pay down the debt, after all someone else can do that. Cash brings votes, but as Swan discovered you need a lot of cash.
