Hi Phil, no problem with that, might be just semantics because taking the rollover exemption might be the default option.
I wasn't completely sure what you meant about the cash component because according to section 11.2 in the Bidders Statement you only get to deduct a proportion of your AVB cost base (not the full cost base) from the cash OZL paid (8.5cents) in working out your capital gain on the cash component (see the formula at the bottom of page56). Makes a difference to the ATO because you have to take some of the capital gain upfront and can't defer a lot more by using the scrip for scrip rollover exemption. Anyway, as you say, people should take professional advice because the situation is complicated, and that was the main point of my original reply.
